Since her days as a college student Maddy Schiering always felt her calling was to combine her interest in business with her desire to make an impact in her community. Maddy founded Sheer Strategy in 2016 to do just that. Passionate about non-profits, she has worked almost exclusively in this arena for her entire career.
“I am inspired by working with non-profits, because while they are businesses, they are first and foremost mission driven to help those they serve,” says Maddy. “Fundraising in particular is all about working with people who care about causes near and dear to them, and nothing is better than helping people meet their philanthropic goals. Plus, I enjoy working on a variety of strategies for non-profits, from donor cultivation to communicating agency needs and everything in between, to meet their funding objectives.”
Maddy grew up in Rockland County and has been serving the community since her youth. From volunteering at Letchworth Developmental Center as a high school student to leading a Girl Scout troop, delivering Meals on Wheels and serving on Orangetown Jewish Center’s Youth Commission, Maddy believes in the importance of volunteerism. She is a graduate of Cornell University (BS in Human Development and Family Studies) and of the University of Texas at El Paso (MBA and MPA).
Non-profit agencies without dedicated or sufficient fundraising staff often find themselves unable to “do it all” and are excellent candidates for Maddy’s assistance. Maddy helps non-profit clients diversify their revenue sources through fundraising consultation, strategic and operational planning, grant proposal development, leadership engagement and marketing and communications strategies. Maddy is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled non-profit professional, but what truly sets her apart is her ability to “get things done.” Most people have excellent intentions, but for many it is a struggle to follow through. Fortunately, Maddy’s planning and follow-up skills are among her most valued strengths, and she can be depended on to meet her commitments and do what she says she will do.
On a personal note, Maddy enjoys tennis, reading, traveling and all kinds of games. Among her favorites is “fishbowl” because it’s a great game for all generations to play together. Plus, Maddy says it forces her 20 and 16 year-olds to hang out with her!
For RBWN members that are non-profit professionals or serving as board members for a non-profit, Maddy will happily offer a 10% discount on her services to their agencies. Contact her at
