Center for Safety and Change – A Night for Change
May 3, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Center for Safety & Change (the Center) is the sole victim assistance provider in Rockland County—last year alone, the Center served 1,965 clients. From emergency shelter and 24/7 safety planning to legal advocacy and long-term support groups, the Center’s services are in constant demand. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time when staff work tirelessly to both support victims and survivors and raise public awareness about sexual violence.
For over 45 years, the Center has been a lifeline for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes. The nonprofit provides counseling, shelter, legal services, education, and advocacy—always with a focus on women and children, and a mission to create a world free from violence and oppression.
This April is particularly full as the Center prepares for its largest annual fundraiser, A Night for Change, taking place on May 3rd at the Hilton Pearl River. This powerful event raises critical funds to ensure life-saving services remain available for those who need them most.
The 2025 gala will spotlight SAEDA (Student Activists Ending Dating Abuse), a signature civic youth leadership training program that focuses on preventing dating and sexual violence and understanding its root causes. Like most prevention work, SAEDA is not funded and relies on community support to continue.
At this year’s event, the Center will proudly present the Carolyn Fish Human Rights Award to three remarkable individuals:
- Lisa & Michael Chang, for their long-standing commitment to equity, education, and community service
- Alison Crowther, who transformed personal tragedy into a legacy of compassion in honor of her son, Welles Remy Crowther—the “Man in the Red Bandana”—who died saving lives on 9/11
These honorees, like Welles and the Center’s late CEO Carolyn Fish, exemplify the courage, advocacy, and love for humanity that define the Center’s mission.
